Why VFMA

Valley Forge Military Academy is about growth –
a growth that cannot be measured in inches, but in character.

While a small percentage of Valley Forge Military Academy (VFMA) students go on to officer training, preparing young men for the military is not our goal. Rather, we believe that by following the time-tested principles of military educational model – by emphasizing personal honor and pride, by setting and focusing on goals, and in learning to become a good follower and then a good leader, we develop more than just academic potential. We develop a sense of personal integrity. We develop ethically minded citizen leaders of character.

Valley Forge Military Academy (VFMA&C) is a private all-male boarding academy offering grades 7-12 and postgraduate. The primary mission of the VFMA is to prepare students for transfer to competitive four-year colleges and universities. Established in 1928, VFMA has a long tradition of fostering personal growth through a comprehensive system built on the five cornerstones that make Valley Forge unique: academic excellence, character development, personal motivation, physical development, and leadership to all students regardless of race, creed, or national origin.

The diverse student body represents more than 31 states and 24 countries. VFMA has an excellent transfer record, with 99 percent of cadets accepted to their first or second choice schools.

Valley Forge seeks to educate and develop students for college entrance, career success, and responsible citizenship. A challenging curriculum, dedicated faculty members, small classes, individual attention, and faculty supervised evening study hall provides cadets with an environment conducive to attaining academic success. The acquisition of knowledge, the development of skills, and the shaping of attitudes are emphasized to enable the cadets to excel academically and to inspire them to pursue education throughout life.

The average class size is 13, and the student-teacher ratio is 10:1. Opportunities for independent study, off-campus field trips, and enrollment in courses at Valley Forge Military College are available to Academy cadets.
