A challenging curriculum, dedicated faculty, small classes and individual attention provide cadets an intense individualized learning experience. Academy teachers do more than teach. They are selected not just for their professional credentials (of our 51 full-time and 11 part-time teachers, more than half hold either Master's degrees or doctorates) but for their tireless dedication. Faculty members take an active interest in every student's life. They supervise and assist students in their mandatory evening study periods. They work overtime as athletic coaches and advisors of extracurricular activities. In short, they care.
Because we realize all students learn differently, we offer a three-tiered approach to academic work that allows us to work with cadets at a level that's right for them. We offer Advanced Placement and honors coursework, a Reading Program, an SAT prep course, and an intensive English Language Institute. We broaden horizons with field trips and opportunities for independent study. Top academy students can even take courses in our college.
Classes are held five days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 3:05 p.m. The school day is divided into eight 40-minute periods; cadets average six classes per day. An extra instruction period is available after the last class period. There is a mandatory two-hour evening study period between 7:30 pm and 9:30 pm.
Technology assists in our educational challenge. A fiber-optic, Internet-capable computer network connects all classrooms, laboratories, library and dormitory rooms on campus. Rooms are computer accessible and provide access to Cadet Net, the institutional local area network. This network provides access to the library and the Internet, and includes helpful campus information and technical support.
